Sandy soils need more frequent watering than clay soils as they’re not as dense so water and nutrient-holding capacities are reduced. Adding organic matter helps retain moisture.
The general rule for watering is more, less often. Gardens that get regular sprinklings develop surface roots, making them more
prone to wilting in hot weather. A good soaking encourages roots to grow deeply and soil stays moist for longer.
TIP Watering in the cooler part of the day, early morning or evening, reduces water loss through evaporation.
