Deep-frying. Do what you can to avoid this high-fat disaster. If you absolutely must deep fry, drain the food well on paper towels.

Pan-frying. Cut back on fat by using nonstick pans, spraying pans with nonstick cooking spray or wiping a small amount of oil onto the pan with a paper towel for an ultralight coating.

Overbarbecuing. Avoid barbecuing foods to a crisp. When you allow the fat from meats or marinades to drip onto hot coals, the resulting smoky, charred bits contain dangerous carcinogens. Trim fat from meats and move food away from open flames.
