Makes 1 treatment
This inexpensive powder will leave your dog fresh smelling and helps to repel fleas. It is safe to apply as often as needed. Mix and match the oils according to your own scent preference.
What you'll need to make a flea powder
1 box (500 g) bicarbonate of soda
10 drops in total peppermint, lavender, rosemary, cedar, eucalyptus or rose geranium essential oils
Preparation method for flea powder
1. In a mixing bowl, empty the box of bicarbonate of soda, sprinkle with your personal blend of oils, and stir to blend.
2. Work the treated bicarbonate of soda into your dog’s fur, beginning at the neck (where fleas congregate) and working towards the tail. Keep the powder away from nose, mouth, eyes and ears.
3. Allow the powder to remain on the dog for 10 minutes, then comb or brush it out, along with dirt and fleas.
Note: If you have a large dog, you may need to make 2 or more recipes’ worth.

| RD Editor on 29 November 2011 ,05:01 Hi Janine, tea tree oil is often used in dog shampoo and flea treatments. It should not be applied straight in high doses, as there is some evidence of toxicity (especially among cats), but as a substitute in this recipe it should be fine. If in doubt, please consult your vet. - RD Editor |
