The ethics of investing
Evaluation of companies for their appropriateness for socially responsible investing may cover a broad range of issues, and different funds – and individuals – have different priorities. But the following are normally assessed.
● Environmental practices: for example, pollution reduction, recycling and energy-saving measures.
● Community relations: community service projects, scholarships, philanthropic investments.
● Employee relations: wages relative to the industry, employee empowerment.
● Equal opportunities: percentage of minority groups and women in the workforce.
● Customer relations: stringent quality control, monitoring of feedback from customers.
