●1 MAKE A STARTER MARK by clamping the work and making a dimple in the surface using a centre punch with a hammer to keep the point of the bit positioned when drilling starts.
●2 ADD A RING OF PUTTY around the dimple and fill with oil to prevent overheating. If the hole is bigger than 6mm in diameter drill pilot holes starting with a 2mm hole and increasing in size.
●3 CHOOSE THE DRILL SETTING and use firm steady pressure with a moderate speed to drill the first hole.
Apply duct tape beneath the hole to hold the oil then repeat with the larger bits.
TIP - Always wear eye protection when drilling into metal.
