  • Show up late. It’s nice to be “fashionably” late, but what exactly defines “fashionably”? Your hostess may have activities planned for the night, so try to be there on time. If you absolutely have to show up a little late, make it fifteen minutes – maximum! Have a prior engagement? Let your hostess know so that she won’t hold the party up for you.

• Get plastered. It’s the holidays – time to eat, drink, and be merry, right? Of course! But it’s best to keep the drinking to a minimum. Keep track of how many drinks you’ve had and try to stick to one type of beverage (mixing could lead to embarrassing consequences!). And if you’re not sure how much alcohol is in the cocktail being served, don’t be afraid to ask – your caution will be appreciated.

• Overstay your welcome. The invite said 7 pm – 10 pm – and now its 10:30 pm. It’s time to thank your hosts for a wonderful evening and head home. If no one else is leaving, don’t be afraid to start the trend – chances are the other guests are just waiting for the first person to leave. Never overstay your welcome, even if your hosts are too nice to kick everyone out.
