Put aside the family drama for a happy holiday
Just because it’s “the season of giving” doesn’t mean your family get together will be filled with glad hearts! If you’re hosting this year, try these simple tips to help keep the peace between family members.
• Don’t pick sides. If your goal is to see everyone get along during the holidays, play the role of the mediator. Speak to each relative separately and at the very least get them to “agree to disagree.”
• Plan something for everyone. If you know that your mom loves holiday karaoke but your Uncle Bobby insists on watching his favourite Christmas film, try to incorporate a little something for everybody. Have one room dedicated to board games and sing-a-longs and another to holiday movies and crafts. This way, no one has an excuse to bag out at the party!
• Most importantly, stay merry. Even if others are growling around you, commit to not letting others ruin the holiday fun. Once everyone sees you avoid petty conflicts with a cheerful attitude, they are more likely to follow your lead. After all, ‘tis the season to be jolly!
