Book News December 2011

Season's greetings to all our readers! We hope your celebrations with friends and family are heart-warming this year, and that you have time for some holiday treats. One special summer pleasure is relaxing on the beach or the verandah with a good book, and we have plenty of novels in Select Editions to keep you anchored to your lounger.

 

Plus there's more great book news this month—Encounters author Conor Grennan has released a video where he talks about his debut work, Little Princes. His touching memoir appears in our December issue of Encounters and we noticed that it contains a most unusual Christmas story. Conor was volunteering at an orphanage in Nepal when he received a surprise message from a young woman, Liz, whom he'd been corresponding with but had never met—she planned to come to see him in Kathmandu at Christmas time! He warned her that this would hardly be an average Christmas, but she turned up and joined in enthusiastically, as you can see in our photo of Liz, Conor and one of the Nepalese children.
